  119. should either switch the default user�s UI language back to English before
  120. removing the only extra UI language or use the Regional Options in the Control
  121. Panel to change it. </span></p>

  132. fail if configured in partition that had a previous installation of
  133. Windows.&nbsp; It is recommended to format the partition before starting the
  134. Windows Server 2003 installation, then installing MUI.</span></p>

  139. recommended after installing the MUI packages for the East Asian languages. </span></p>

  144. MUI Windows Server 2003 Beta3 users are recommended to remove all MUI packages
  145. before upgrading to the final release.&nbsp; If you have upgraded without
  146. removing the MUI packages you may need to install and remove the MUI package
  147. from a new account with administrative rights.</span></p>

  150. the &quot;Language for non-Unicode programs&quot;</span></u></b></p>
  151. <p class=MsoNormal align=center style='text-align:center'>&nbsp;</p>
  152. <p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>If you
  153. will be running non-Unicode programs on the MUI system, you should set the
  154. &quot;Language for non-Unicode programs&quot; to match the language of the
  155. non-Unicode programs. Since this is a system-wide setting, only one non-Unicode
  156. language is supported on a system. </span></p>
  157. <p class=MsoNormal>&nbsp;</p>
  158. <p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>This
  159. setting is not required for Unicode programs, but setting it to match the
  160. language of the running programs may still improve application compatibility.
  161. &nbsp;You can change the &quot;Language for non-Unicode programs&quot; setting
  162. in Regional and Language Options in the Control Panel. </span></p>
  163. <p class=MsoNormal>&nbsp;</p>
  164. <p class=MsoNormal><b><u><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>Not
  165. all UI strings are localized</span></u></b></p>
  166. <p class=MsoNormal align=center style='text-align:center'>&nbsp;</p>
  167. <p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>Some UI
  168. strings will remain in English even if the UI is set to another language.
  169. &nbsp;This is because certain strings in some component areas do not work with
  170. MUI yet due to the complexity of the technologies. &nbsp;The main areas
  171. include: all 16-bit programs, registry keys and values, and strings in INF
  172. files.&nbsp; This affects about 3% of the Windows UI � mainly in administrative
  173. tools. &nbsp;Localized Windows Server 2003 systems have all of these strings
  174. translated. </span></p>
  175. <p class=MsoNormal>&nbsp;</p>
  176. <p class=MsoNormal><b><u><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>Fonts
  177. used in the UI are not always the same as localized Windows Server 2003</span></u></b></p>
  178. <p class=MsoNormal align=center style='text-align:center'>&nbsp;</p>
  179. <p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>You may
  180. notice that the UI text for certain languages displays poorly on machines on
  181. which multiple UI languages are in use. &nbsp;This is most visible when the
  182. &quot;Language for non-Unicode programs&quot; is set to Chinese and the current
  183. user's UI language is Japanese. &nbsp;The solution is to switch the
  184. &quot;Language for non-Unicode programs&quot; to match the UI language. If you
  185. have users of all 4 East Asian UI languages working on the same machine, we
  186. recommend you initially set the &quot;Language for non-Unicode programs&quot;
  187. to Japanese and then change back to US English or keep it as Japanese. </span></p>
  188. <p class=MsoNormal>&nbsp;</p>
  189. <p class=MsoNormal><b><u><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>Outlook
  190. Express</span></u></b></p>
  191. <p class=MsoNormal align=center style='text-align:center'>&nbsp;</p>
  192. <p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>The UI
  193. language of Outlook Express will change only when the &quot;Language for
  194. non-Unicode programs&quot; matches the UI language. </span></p>
  195. <p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>Folders
  196. created in Outlook Express will not switch language. Outlook Express should be
  197. configured after the preferred UI language has been set.</span></p>
  198. <p class=MsoNormal>&nbsp;</p>
  199. <p class=MsoNormal><b><u><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>Server
  200. Appliance Kit (SAK) languages selection </span></u></b></p>
  201. <p class=MsoNormal align=center style='text-align:center'>&nbsp;</p>
  202. <p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>The
  203. Server Appliance Kit (SAK) UI language doesn't follow the system UI
  204. language.&nbsp; Administrators can change the SAK language in the SAK language
  205. settings on the Maintenance tab of the SAK web interface. </span></p>
  206. <p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>For
  207. detailed instructions on how to set the SAK language please refer to the SAK
  208. help.</span></p>

  211. for using MUI systems and localized Windows systems together</span></u></b></p>

  260. If you need to roam or use folder redirection policy, be aware that multiple
  261. language versions of My Documents and other per-user folders could be created
  262. on the machine. You will also have to manually add other language support (such
  263. as East Asian) to the system in order for these localized folder names to be
  264. displayed properly. If you use the same UI language across different MUI
  265. machines, this should not be an issue. </span></p>
  266. <p class=MsoNormal>&nbsp;</p>
  267. <p class=MsoNormal><b><u><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>Using
  268. DCPromo and other server tools</span></u></b></p>
  269. <p class=MsoNormal align=center style='text-align:center'>&nbsp;</p>
  270. <p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>When
  271. running DCPromo, or installing server applications, we recommend you set both
  272. the default and the interactive user UI language to English. </span></p>
  273. <p class=MsoNormal>&nbsp;</p>
  274. <p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>For
  275. example, if you set the default user's UI language to one of the European
  276. languages and run DCPromo, the well-known security principals (mostly under the
  277. Built-in container in AD Users &amp; Computers) are created using the localized
  278. names from this language. This may cause difficulty for users that do not
  279. understand the language. &nbsp;Keeping the UI in English when running DCPromo
  280. leaves these names in English. </span></p>
  281. <p class=MsoNormal>&nbsp;</p>
  282. <p class=MsoNormal><b><u><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>Improving
  283. localized application compatibility</span></u></b></p>
  284. <p class=MsoNormal align=center style='text-align:center'>&nbsp;</p>
  285. <p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>The
  286. MUISetup.exe program contains three settings to help configure an MUI system to
  287. most closely match a localized Windows system. If you want an MUI system to
  288. provide maximum application compatibility for a single language, you can set
  289. all these three settings to the same language. &nbsp;However, you should be
  290. aware of the side-effects of applying these settings when evaluating whether or
  291. not to use them. </span></p>
  292. <p class=MsoNormal>&nbsp;</p>
  293. <p class=MsoNormal style='margin-left:.25in;text-indent:-.25in'><span
  294. style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>1.</span><span style='font-size:
  295. 7.0pt'>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </span><span style='font-size:10.0pt;
  296. font-family:Verdana'>Language for default user and new user account<br>
  297. This is a system-wide setting that specifies the UI language for the default user
  298. account as well as any new user accounts created thereafter. This setting
  299. affects the logon screen UI language and the language for other services
  300. running on the machine. Setting this language to match the application's
  301. language sometimes can improve some localized applications' compatibility. You
  302. can also set the default user's UI language from the Advanced tab in Regional
  303. and Language Options in Control Panel. </span></p>
  304. <p class=MsoNormal style='margin-left:.25in;text-indent:-.25in'><span
  305. style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>2.</span><span style='font-size:
  306. 7.0pt'>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </span><span style='font-size:10.0pt;
  307. font-family:Verdana'>Match the &quot;Language for non-Unicode programs&quot; to
  308. the default user language<br>
  309. This setting will force the &quot;Language for non-Unicode programs&quot; to be
  310. the same as the default user's UI language. Select this check box if you want
  311. to run non-Unicode programs in the specified language. This setting affects all
  312. users of the computer and only one non-Unicode language can be set on a
  313. machine. Setting the language for non-Unicode programs can improve application
  314. compatibility for some Unicode applications as well. You can also set the
  315. language for non-Unicode programs from the Advanced tab in Regional and
  316. Language Options in Control Panel. </span></p>

  320. font-family:Verdana'>Set Shell UI font to match the default user's UI language <br>
  321. This setting specifies whether you want the display fonts used on the desktop
  322. to match the default user's UI language. This setting is only available when
  323. the previous two settings are set. At this release, this setting only affects
  324. Japanese. Specifying this setting can cause other UI languages to display
  325. poorly. Clear this checkbox if anyone working on this computer uses a language
  326. other than Japanese. Setting this option will improve the application
  327. compatibility for some localized programs. This setting can only be changed
  328. within MUIsetup. </span></p>
