The DirectDrawEx component contains a dynamic-link library (DLL) named Ddrawex.dll which insulates the application caller from version differences between it and the installed version of Microsoft DirectDraw. </P>

<P>DirectDrawEx only supports system memory resources; video memory surfaces, and thus hardware acceleration, are not available through this component.</P>

<P>This component supports the <B>CLSID_DirectDrawFactory</B> object, and is used by some components of Internet Explorer, including DirectAnimation and the DirectXTransforms infrastructure. </P>
